February 2022 has been an interesting month for the Nigerian music industry. Plenty of comeback singles from Nigerian artistes that have been on a long break from music, surprise collaborations, impressive albums and top notch international features.
We take a look at the Top Ten Nigerian songs released in the month of February, 2022.
1. Olamide ft. Wande Coal – Hate Me
YBNL boss, Olamide Adedeji had earlier stated that he was making plans to retire from making music after his last album in 2022. With the release of his new single “Hate Me“ featuring Africa’s Finest Vocalist, Wande Coal, Olamide would have to seriously rethink that decision.
The new single is a classic definition of Pop meets Afrobeats.
Wande Coal delves into another realm channelling his Inner Micheal Jackson with his vocal dexterity and delivery as he sings “they gon hate me, when they see my bank statement while Olamide also delivers heavily with witty bars and rhymes reminiscent of the Olamide before the UY SCUTI era.
This is the first collaboration between the two mega stars and we must say it is definitely a brilliant effort from both artistes on the very danceable and melodious instrumentals crafted by serial hit maker, P-prime.
2. Tekno – Mufasa
Tekno has been away from the Nigerian music scene since he released the single “Enjoy” remix featuring Mafikizolo. The “Pana” Crooner and Songwriter for Davido’s “IF” returned to the mainstream Nigerian music scene this year with the release of the YungWillis produced AfroPop- Afromakossa jam entitled “Mufasa”.
The song is characterized by signature Tekno moves; Tekno’s Use of PUN, hilarious word play coupled with the very sweet melodies imbedded on a typical danceable instrumental.
3. Asa ft. Wizkid – IDG
Off Asa’s Highly Anticipated “V” album, Wizkid’s lifelong Dream to cop a feature with Asa finally comes to reality with “IDG”, track three off the album.
On the song, they sing about going only where they are shown love. The song features some amazing riffs and melodies and Wizkid ups his lyrical content on this particular tune. As usual, Asa never disappoints. The song is produced by P-prime.
4. Blaqbonez – Commander
Chocolate City Star Signing and PR King, Blaqbonez released his debut single of the year “Commander“ in February 2022.
The song which is Blaqbonez first offering after the release of his “Sex over Love” deluxe album mirrors a sexual scenario where Blaqbonez acts as the commander of his mistress. The song is filled with sexual innuendos on the bouncy instrumental produced by Typae.
The song is enjoying massive airplays and attention across the country thanks to Blaqbonez massive PR.
5. Asake ft. Olamide – Omo Ope Remix
Asake is known for his hit single “Mr Money”. The remix featured Zlatan and Peruzzi. He recently got signed to Olamide’s “YBNL” records and released his debut EP “Ololade”.
Omo Ope Remix featuring Olamide is a single off the EP and has been enjoying massive street love and attention since the release. The song is produced by Magic sticks.
6. Zinoleesky – Rocking
Zinoleesky has been in massive form since 2020 dishing out Top notch Amapiano records like Kilofeshe, Gone Far, Nairamarley and now “Rocking”.
The 27 years old artiste gives reverence to Fuji Music Star, Alhaji Pasuma Wonder who he also samples on the record as he sings “keep on rocking, keep on rocking, pasuma, ki bo ro ki.”
The song is produced by Marlian Music in-house producer “NiphKeys“ and is fast gaining grounds in the country.
7. Rema – Calm Down
Divine Ikubor wets the appetite of his fans towards the release of his debut album “Rave and Roses“ with the release of the Afro pop tune “Calm Down”.
The video of the song was shot in Lagos by Director K and the song audio was produced by Mavins In House producer “Andre Vibes”.
Calm down went ahead to top the iTunes Charts of ten countries upon its release and is the first major single off Rema’s highly anticipated album “Rave and Roses” scheduled to drop later this year.
8. Adekunle Gold ft. TyDollaSign – One Woman
Adekunle Gold released his fourth studio album “Catch Me if You Can“ on the fourth of February, 2022. The album is the second in the series of The New AG Baby and his Afropop offerings which fans were introduced to with his “Afropop” album in 2020.
Off the album is the BlaiseBeats produced and love themed single “One Woman“ featuring American International star, Ty Dolla Sign.
On the track, Adekunle Gold who is married to a Nigerian Songwriter and singer, Simi, sings about his loyalty and love for one woman only and that he is a one woman type of man. The track is a stand out track on the album thanks to the wonderful production, melodies and top notch delivery from TyDollaSign and Adekunle Gold.
9. BasketMouth ft. Peruzzi – Celowi
After the Critically acclaimed “Yabasi“ album was released in 2020, Ace Comedian, Bright Okpocha a.k.a Basketmouth returns two years after with his sophomore album titled “Horoscopes”.
Basketmouth continues with “industry standards” defying music and production on this album which also serves as the official soundtrack to his upcoming movie “Scorpio”.
Off the album entirely produced by DuktokSett is the fan favourite titled “Celowi” featuring Peruzzi.
The track made specifically for a beach scene in the Scorpio movie is a feel good track where Peruzzi urges his listeners to move and sway.
10. Nonso Amadi – Foreigner
After a two years hiatus from the Nigerian music scene, Nonso Amadi known for his hit single “Tonight” returns to the Music scene with his new single “foreigner“.
Nonso Amadi sings about his disappearance from the music scene and his love affairs with a foreigner on this Afropop and RnB tune which he also co produced.
