In the course of the First Week of March 2022, a very strong argument emerged between Fans of Alte artist, Osayaba Andrew Ize-Iyamu also known as Cruel Santino and music journalist and writer, One Motolani.
The premise of the argument is the strongly worded review of Santi’s highly anticipated sophomore album “Subaru Boys: Final Heaven“ by the Pulse Team.
The album which dropped on The 4th of March 2022 had barely spent a week on streaming platforms before Pulse came up with the review which has been met with mixed reactions.
In the article, the writer lambasted Santi and his other Alte genre artistes like Odunsi, Lady Donli, Tay Iwar, etc calling them “egoistic “ and “stubborn“ set of new generation artistes.
The review infuriated Santi who came on the social media app Twitter to lambast the journalist and other media houses bashing the Alte genre and the pioneer artistes.
The scuffle also generated reactions from Alte pioneer, Fresh DRB of Lasgidi and another Alte artiste called Lady Donli.
This article criticizing Alte genre was a source of heated twitter spaces that had contributions from Ycee, Bizzle Ozikoya and others.
This brings us to the question regarding the acceptance of Alte Music in Nigeria. Is Alte Music really distasteful or boring? Are the Alte artistes doing something wrong?
Santi latest album brings the conversation to the forefront once again as the album has been met with mixed reviews and subtle jabs here and there.
What do you think? Is Alte Music meant for the average Nigerian audience or do we need a special kind of intellect and affluence to connect with this “highly revered“ genre of music?
