Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun, better known as Wizkid, a Grammy Award-winning Afrobeats singer from Nigeria, has now amassed the most Headies Awards honors with five wins in the 2022 competition.
After winning 15 Headies trophies, the singer of “Essence” has cemented his place in Headies history, making him the first recipient since the award’s creation in 2007.
The artist that received nominations in 10 categories this year took home 5 of them. All thanks to his Made in Lagos album and the worldwide smash hit song “Essence” with Tems from Nigeria.
At the Glamour Event Centre in Atlanta, Georgia, Wizkid received Album Of The Year (Made In Lagos Deluxe Edition), Best Collaboration, Best R&B song, Best Afrobeats Album (Essence) feat. Tems, and Song Of The Year for (Essence).
The superstar, who couldn’t attend the event, was represented by his manager, Sunday Are, who thanked the event’s organizer on behalf of the performer and dedicated the trophy to Wizkid FC.
Big Wiz, congratulations!
