In 2019, he also released his debut project “Timz EP“ under Anonymous music. The six track EP featured artistes like Barry Jhay and Zlatan Ibile and was a moderate success churning hits like Odo, Hustle and Folasade.
The issues with the Record Label started in 2021 after the massive success of his lockdown single “MJ” and his hook on Olamide’s hit single “Loading“. He approached the Label to terminate his five years recording deal and the Label refused on grounds of the reasons for termination not being genuine and that it was an attempt to dump the label after reaching lime light.
Upon refusal to terminate by the label, the artiste then allegedly started doing shows and getting payment without the label’s knowledge which is a direct breach of the recording contract.
Despite repeated warnings from the label, the artiste did not desist from this breach of his recording contract. The label then petitioned the Inspector General of Police as they claimed the continuous act by Bad Boy Timz contains element of a crime and amounts to fraud. The artiste was eventually arrested on the 19th of May, 2021.
The issues between Bad Boy Timz and his label lingered on for while. Bad Boy Timz claimed he has effectively terminated his contract and the label insisted he has not done same in line with the terms of the contract and such termination is invalid.
From May 2021 till around November 2021, the artiste could not effectively perform at shows and events due to theses issues. As such, his revenue and career progression was adversely affected.
Recently, the label and Bad Boy Timz finally reached an agreement. He will pay the label 60 million naira only as compensation and from that moment ceases to be an artiste under Anonymous music. The label also agreed to retract all legal actions and copyright claims against Bad Boy Timz on music distribution platforms.
Bad Boy Timz has floated his own label “Shock Absorbers Music“ and a distribution deal with “EMPIRE”.
