A remix to Fireboy DML’s Afrobeats hit Peru has been released. The song is available on all major digital music stores and features a verse from Ed Sheeran. It follows Ed Sheeran’s announcement to global music icon Elton John – on Apple Music radio show Rocket Hour – that he would appear on Fireboy DML’s song last week. This song joins Sheeran’s growing list of African collaborations, including songs with Ghana’s Fuse ODG and Mugeez.
The original version of Peru was released in July to instant and widespread acclaim and has since been covered by non-Nigerian artists, such as Maleek Berry and Buju. The song, “Peru,” has an enduring party groove showcasing lush melody and spare percussion work from Shizzi, who has worked extensively with the likes of Davido and Wizkid.
In a statement, Fireboy DML said that having Ed Sheeran collaborate with a track that he wrote was inspired by his travels around the world was an honor. “This is both an exciting moment for me and for Afrobeats as well. “I hope this will be the first of many collaborations with Ed and other artists around the world.”
Behind two LPs, Fireboy DML is expected to embark on a US tour next year in support of his sophomore album Apollo. His tour starts in Providence on 3 February. Additionally, he will visit Cleaveland, Dallas, New York, and Houston.
